On my quest to go “all natural” with my skin and hair care I discovered a fantastic website called iherb.com. They have tons of natural products at affordable prices. I’m currently using Giovanni Purifying Body Bar which is $3.50 for a 5oz bar (Palm Oil, Shea Butter Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Vitamin E, Acai Berry, Goji Berry, Fig and Green Tea Extracts, Activated Charcoal, Volcanic Ash, Iron Oxides, Pure Essential Oils). Here’s a list of the products I purchased:

J.R. Liggett’s Old-Fashioned Bar Shampoo Herbal Formula - $4.55 for a 3.5oz bar (Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, spring water, sodium hydroxide (a binder), Rosemary-Lavender-Cedarwood and other essential oils for fragrance). I’m planning on bringing this to Peru to minimize carry-on liquids.

Aura Cacia, Organic Rejuvenating Argan Oil - $10.78 for 1 fl oz (Organic argan (argania spinosa) kernel oil). This sounds expensive but is one of the least expensive Argan Oils I’ve found and I hear a little goes a long way. I’m going to use a few drops of this as my daily moisturizer and nighttime treatment.

Dr. Woods, Facial Cleanser, Daily Exfoliating - $4.69 for 8 fl oz (Purified water, potassium cocoate, potassium olivate, potassium hempate, glycerin, hydroxyethylcellulose, black soap concentrate, panthenol (pro vitamin b5), polysorbate 80v, citric acid, rosemary extract, lavender oil, peppermint oil, tea tree leaf oil, organic shea butter, chamomile flower extract, vitamin E, vitamin c). I’ve heard great things about Dr. Woods products, especially their Black Soap. For less than $5 I couldn’t resist!

I’ll post reviews once I’ve tried these out!

Made this for dinner last night. Substituted ground sirloin for extra lean ground turkey and used whole egg instead of just egg white. Used 1/8 cup dried parsley since I didn’t have fresh parsley on hand. DELISHHHH

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisturizer Review

I’ve been trying to ease into more “natural” makeup - no parabens, no synthetic fragrances, no petrochemicals, etc. Tarte and Korres stand out as two brands that have come out with some exceptional, eco-friendly products. As I run out of my current products, I am going to try replace my chemical-laden makeup with products from Tarte and Korres.

My skin has been *relatively* good lately and I wanted to try a foundation with less coverage than my Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. I will still use my Vitalumiere Aqua on nights out when I want a flawless finish. I’ve always been weary of tinted moisturizers since they tend to be way to moisturizing for oily skin. After reading rave reviews on makeupalley.com, I decided to try Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer. Here are my thoughts:

- Gel like consistency that blends out effortlessly. I squeeze out a pea size amount and dot it all over my face and rub in with my fingertips. Fastest foundation application I’ve ever experienced.

- Evens out skin-tone but will not hide blemishes. I spot conceal after applying the foundation.

- Completely natural looking, has an undetectable luminescence that enhances the look of your skin.

- Does NOT clog pores, in fact, I think my skin has improved since using this product.

- Lasts all day without getting oily (I set with MAC Blot Powder)

Bottom Line: I LOVE IT! It is one of the best foundations I’ve ever tried behind Lancome Teint Idole Ultra (full coverage) and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (medium coverage). I will definitely repurchase this and can’t wait to try other Tarte products.

Pretty sure I have bronchitis (well according to WebMD). I’m determined to get through it without going to the doctor. I’ve been drinking a TON of water and have been taking Mucinex once a day. I feel fine but have a horrible “productive” cough and a stuffy nose. It sounds like i’ve been smoking a pack a day since ‘99. After work i’m going to CVS to pick up some supplies: Vitamin C, Echinacea and honey. I will also be taking my multi-vitamin and Omega 3 pills every morning. If my “get-better-naturally” plan doesn’t seem to be working in one week, i will go to the doctor.

I try to bring my lunch to work every day to conserve both my wallet and my waistline. On the rare occasion that I have nothing in my fridge and show up to work with instant oatmeal, popcorn and a kiwi, I will go to Viga, Mike & Patty’s or Boloco for lunch. Today I made the 4 minute trek to Boloco and ordered a small Summer in a bowl. WHAMBAMTHANKYOUMA’AM! SO freaking delicious. The Summer bowl consists of black beans, mango salsa, jack cheese and cilantro on a bed of Boloco rice. I added sour cream and romaine lettuce to kick it up a notch. Best 350 calorie lunch in the Boston area.

1. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black - $20: This is a richly pigmented, true black liner. I’ve worn it for 12+ hours without any smudging or fading. I’ve tried countless waterproof black liners, including Milani Liquif’eye and Urban Decay 24/7, and this is by FAR the longest wearing. The felt tip is easy to control and is perfect for achieving everything from precise thin lines to dramatic winged cat eyes.

2. Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base $24: This eye primer blows the much-hyped UD Primer Potion out of the water. It is a white cream that goes on clear and dries to a smooth finish. I apply it to my lids every morning and by the end of the day I still have perfect, crease-free eye shadow!

3. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B50 - Beige Sienne $45: After using up my Lancome Teint Idole Ultra (a full coverage, matte foundation), I was ready for a more lightweight, natural coverage foundation. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua feels like as light as a tinted moisturizer on my skin but gives me the beautiful, medium coverage my not-so-perfect skin needs. I HIGHLY recommend this foundation for combination to normal skin types.

4. Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Honey $22.50: I’ll admit, $22 is an outrageous amount of money to spend on a lip treatment. BUT this product is more than just a lip treatment :) It is the perfect “my lips but better” color in a moisturizing balm. Honey is a warm deep nude shade that looks especially good on medium to tan skin tones.

5. Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Rock Violet (discontinued but Clinique Lid Smoothie in Current Affair is a close dupe) $14.50: This is a long-wearing, subtle cream shadow perfect for my quick morning makeup routine. I swipe this on my lids and blend out with my finger. Rock Violet is a shimmery, light lavender color that enhances my brown eyes.
